The Inspector

Cody Hidalgo

Certified Mold Inspector · K9 Mold Dog Inspection

Cody Hidalgo is a military veteran who, like many of the families he now serves, learned about mold the hard way: his own family experienced its health effects firsthand.

When they looked for help, inspector after inspector proposed exploratory demolition, opening up walls and charging by the area explored. Cody knew there had to be a better way. That search led him to mold detection dogs, and to Frankie.

As a Certified Mold Inspector, Certified Thermographer and Building Science Specialist, Cody draws on his knowledge of how buildings work and how water gets into them to trace problems back to their source. His goal is to find the root causes of moisture intrusion so they can be fixed for good and any mold can be properly remediated.

The Nose

Frankie

Giant Schnauzer · Certified Mold Detection Dog

Frankie is a giant schnauzer the Hidalgo family raised from a puppy. Her trained nose points Cody toward hidden mold odors, so he knows exactly where to look closer.

Frankie is also hypoallergenic, which matters to many people with mold allergies, since they often have other allergies too.

After early socialization and obedience training, Frankie spent about four months in specialized training with Bill Whitstine, the pioneer of mold detection dogs. A former fire marshal with decades of experience training scent dogs, Whitstine owns the Florida Canine Academy and worked with researchers to develop the science behind training mold dogs, founding Mold Dog as a subsidiary of the academy.

Cody and his family trained alongside Frankie, and today Cody and Frankie are a certified handler team.

What to Expect

Your Inspection, Step by Step

Each inspection is a thorough, in-depth microbial investigation that combines Frankie's nose with professional equipment and Cody's building-science expertise.

The Walk-Through

Cody begins with a thorough walk-through of the home to spot potential problem areas.

Frankie's Search

On a leash, Frankie sniffs along every interior wall, alerting when she detects mold odors. Cody marks each spot.

A Closer Look

With Frankie resting in the van, Cody returns to every marked area. He visually confirms microbial growth or signs of moisture rather than reporting air-pathway alerts, and takes samples as needed.

Root Cause & Report

Cody works to pinpoint the root cause so the moisture problem can be fixed and any mold properly remediated, then prepares a detailed report with photos documenting what was found and where.

Borescope

Sees inside wall cavities and hidden spaces without demolition.

Thermal Imager

Reveals temperature patterns that point to hidden moisture.

Moisture Meter

Confirms and measures moisture where Frankie alerts.

Plan for 3–8 Hours

Inspections typically take three to eight hours, depending on the size of the home and the extent of the damage. Afterward, your photo report gives you a clear path forward, and if remediation is needed, you can be confident your money will be well spent.

Before Frankie Arrives

During Frankie's portion, please move pets to another room or the backyard, and put away stuffed toys. They're her kryptonite!
